Tri-Cities |
Bristol
Bristol is perhaps the most unique of all the Tri-Cities areas.
Bristol is one community, located in two states. Bristol lies in
Tennessee on the south side, and in Virginia on the north side of
State Street. Bristol is known for its unique history centered
around explorers like Daniel Boone and for being the birthplace of
country music. However, it is probably best known for being a racing
city with the world famous Bristol Motor Speedway attracting
thousands of race fans each season.
Bristol is growing rapidly, however it still has a small town feel,
and residents enjoy the low crime rate, which is the
tenth lowest in the country.
Economy
Historically, Bristol was known as a rail center for the South.
Trains ran from all over transporting goods from other areas. Today,
Bristol is a large area with many different economic opportunities
due its great location in the middle of the nation’s distribution
chain. Community and city support for economic development has been
encouraged over the years, resulting in many companies moving to the
Bristol area and providing jobs for residents.
Hospitals
The Bristol Regional Medical Center, located in the city of Bristol,
serves the Bristol area. Also, 15 miles away in Elizabethton, TN is
the Sycamore Shoals Hospital which provides health care to the area
as well.
Bristol Schools
Two school systems serve the city of Bristol, Bristol VA schools and
Bristol Tennessee schools, due to the location and
state lines.
The Bristol, VA school system has a belief that “all children can
learn,” and they strive to promote academic excellence in all
students. They encourage and foster skills within students that
promote healthy choices and help them have a higher quality of
life.
The Bristol Tennessee city schools are also great schools that provide
students with a well-rounded education that promotes learning in all
students. |
