Tri-Cities Activities
There is quite a lot to do in the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee. Just
like many other metropolitan areas, there are many dining and
entertainment options, as well as parks and recreational areas.
In Johnson City the dining and shopping opportunities are endless.
There are several places to shop like The Mall at Johnson City. For
the only five-star meal in the Tri-Cities, visit the Troutdale
Dining Room in Bristol.
If outdoor recreation is your interest, you can have fun doing
just about any outdoor activity in the Tri-Cities region. Within a
short drive you can be on the Appalachian Trail, or in the Cherokee
National Forest. You can hike and bike your way through the many
trails, or take a short drive to one of the many Tennessee Valley
Authority (TVA) lakes like Watauga Lake. Many people like to go to
Winged Deer Park, which is a 200 acre soccer and softball park
facility that also offers access to Boone Lake, as well as over 2
miles of hiking trails. Another popular attraction in the area is
Bristol Caverns. Be sure to check out the caverns and learn more
about the gorgeous cavern structures. Golf is also popular in the
area, and Pine Oaks Golf Course, in Johnson City, has been a
favorite among the locals. For sports fans, check out one of the
Johnson City Cardinals baseball games, or the very popular NASCAR
races that take place each year at Bristol Motor Speedway.
In Johnson City, there is also a great deal to do if you are
interested in the arts and cultural events. The Tipton-Haynes State
Historic Site is a great place to learn more about the history of
the area. The historic home is the site of the archeological remains
of the early Woodland Indians, and also a historic battle site that
dates back to 1788. There are also several art galleries and museums
that support the work of local artists and relate the history of
Appalachian culture in the area. Visit the Carroll Reece History and
Arts Museum or Slocumb Galleries, which displays the artwork of the
students from the Department of Art & Design at East Tennessee
State University. If you are looking to check out some of the local music in
the area, check out Down Home, a club that showcases many local
musicians, and has been a hub for music since 1976.
Of course, if you take a short drive, there are many other
attractions and things to do in the places around Johnson City. Take
a trip to Banner Elk, NC and visit Grandfather Mountain, or visit
Abingdon, VA and check out the Barter Theatre for lots of
entertaining shows. |
